Hello my dear blog mates! Hope you're having a great 2012. I really missed you during my short blogging break, and it seems I'm gonna miss a little more. As I said before, social networks especially Blogger occupies the majority of my time in internet. :) Since I have a lot of resolutions in 2012 as a student and an enthusiastic person, I decided to stop blogging on Blogger. I will be writing on Tumblr. If you have a Tumblr account, please follow my blog there. I will be posting there what I'm up to every week. I don't leave social networks though. I will be visiting blogs and writing comments whenever I find free time.

DÉJÀ VU Blogfest And An Announcement

I really couldn't decide what to post but finally I picked this one. I didn't write this story, I translated it from a different language. I re-post it because I want everyone get lesson from this story. :)

By the way, after this post I may not be able to blog frequently. I think I will take a long break. I apologize for that, I'm a university student and I have AIMS such as finishing a manuscript and being successful at my lessons at a same time. So, I try to spend less time on internet and blogging takes the majority of my spare time. But please do not unfollow my blog and follow my Tumblr. I may return with a very big surprise. Miss me!

Four Things That Cannot Be Taken Back

A young lady was waiting for her airplane in an airport. There were hours to the flight of the airplane. So, she bought a book and a box of biscuits to spend her time and sat on a bench. While she was reading her book, a man sat on the bench next to her and started to read his magazine. The woman picked up a biscuit from the box and the man took one after her without permission.

“What an impolite man! I would have probably punched him on his face if we weren't in an airport!” she thought.

When she took a piece of biscuit, the man did the same and grabbed one after her. She became very angry to this rude man and didn’t want to make a scene. When most of the biscuits got eaten by them, she wondered what would he do with the last one. And when she realized this the last one, the man got the biscuit, split it into two pieces and gave the half to her. Now, it made her extremely angry and she couldn't stand this impoliteness, grabbed her bag and book, went into the plane. She found her seat, after resting her head a little she opened her bag to take her eyeglasses to continue the reading. But the thing she saw in her bag made her shocked. The biscuit box was inside the bag and she hadn't even touched any biscuit. She had made a mistake, she had forgotten that she hadn't taken the box off her bag while reading the book.

Now, she was ashamed, just because she had done a very big mistake. The man had shared his biscuits with her without any complaint, even with a friendly behavior, however her thoughts were completely different. Now, it was too late, it was too late to apologize, it was too late to do a friendly gesture towards the man...

There are 4 things we cannot take back:

1. A stone - After it is thrown away.

2. A word - After it is said.

3. An opportunity - After it is neglected.

4. Time - After it is past.

Some Movies I Watched This Week

Hello, everybody! This is the quick review of the films which I watched (and re-watched) this week when I could find a very short time.

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Yeah, I did it. The guy who complains about the lack of his time re-watched the 3 super long movies. Because I can't get enough of watching this trilogy. And The Return of the King is the first movie ever I gave 10/10 IMDb rating. I cannot wait for the sequel of the trilogy - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. If you haven't read my previous post about The Hobbit, you should check here.
My ratings:
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - 9/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: 8/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: 10/10

2. Tangled
The animation and the computer effects are just awesome! That is of course Walt Disney difference. The story is also interesting and unique, not like other simple animation film stories. And especially, "not too much fantasy" :)
And my IMDb rating is 8/10

3. Revolutionary Road
There are only two reasons I chose to watch this movie: Kate Winslet - I just adore this woman and Drama - I'm fond of drama. And one bonus reason: To look how old does Leonardo DiCaprio look - Don't you think he got aged suddenly?? Wrinkles suddenly appeared on his face and the beard makes him look much older. Anyway, the movie is so sad, I like it but I have to say that I got bored in some scenes. The story is simple for me even if it is adapted by the same named novel of Richard Yates. The ending is so surprising and it affected me to give a high IMDb score - 7/10. Still not that high but I didn't want to be unfair to other dramas. (Do I talk like my ratings have f**king influences on something? :D)

4. Friends with Benefits
Ahh, comedy! Actually there are no that many reasons to laugh out loud but it is a perfect romance story. Unique! The actors have been chosen perfectly I think. This is one of the rare comedies I like. :) Generally, the main purpose of the makers of this movie is to collaborate sexy Mila Kunis and sexy Justin Timberlake and exaggerated sex scenes, draw people's attention and make a lot of money. :) Just my opinion :) And my IMDb rating to this movie is 7/10

I Am So Excited For The Hobbit!

As I am a huge The Lord of the Rings movies fan, I can't get enough of watching them over and over again and spending time to find behind the scenes photos and videos. No, I haven't read the books yet, but it doesn't mean I will not. :)

As you know, my all time favorite movie director Peter Jackson officially announced the sequel of the series, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which will be released on 14th December 2012. And it will be followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again (13th December 2013). The date of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey reminds me my bad memories which I don't even want to think, but I think it will be released a little late here in South Korea. I am super excited for this movie because it will be in 3D!

And with the excitement of the news, I heard that Peter Jackson has announced a blog about the making process of The Hobbit. Yes, I might be a little late for that. :) I spent almost hours on digging this blog and watching behind the scenes videos. Thank you very very much Peter! You've done really good job for creating this blog. The blog is called TheHobbitBlog.com and there you can find behind the scenes videos, photos, news and more.

From this blog I found out that this Facebook page is official Peter Jackson page and there is another blog GandalfWorldTour.com which is managed by TheOneRing.net. This blog is about the travels of the statue of Gandalf. People around the world requests to participate, if accepted, they take pictures the photos of the statue of Gandalf in different places, and then the blog authors publish them. I requested too. :) And the other exciting news is that Kate of LOST Evangeline Lilly will play an elf whose name is Taurel.

Stuff I Overdo #1 - Computers

Before starting to talk about my awkward habits, I want to congratulate Thanksgiving of my American blogger friends. Can I ask you a question? - Is it mandatory to eat turkey every year? It is kinda turkey massacre :D

Well, I don't know why I'm writing this post but I enjoy it. I enjoy to be able to accept all the things I overdo. :D Actually, there are a few on my mind, but I don't want to write a very long post because I know no one will read if I do. So, I decided to make post series which I will write the things I do a lot (unless I forget).

So, you see me always complaining about the lack of my time. But honestly, I CAN make time for everything. But I don't. :) There are a lot of things that I spend EXTREMELY MUCH time doing them. This the first and most important one of them below I could pick.

My lovely computer :)

Spending time in front of the computer screen. - Once I sit and connect to the internet, I lose control. There are incredibly a lot of things I want to check and learn. Once I open the Chrome (browser), the websites I visit are Yahoo Mail, Hotmail (university's), Facebook, Twitter, Blogger and etc. These are certainly not the only websites check. On my email addresses, I check the emails and visit the websites people sent me, on Facebook, I check the timeline, like and write comments on statuses and read my inbox and reply, on Twitter, I read tweets, reply, check the trends to learn what the heck they are, and when I see a new person, I just dig his/her profile (it is also same with Facebook). On Blogger,(now I'm wring it with moist eyes) ahhh!!!! On Blogger, there are hundreds of websites to check and hundreds of posts to read! That takes really, really much time! Of course that is not all! There are usually tens of questions inside my head waiting their answers! Google, Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers and any other websites help me to find answers of them. Plus, I need to update my university's website which I currently help the main designer. Plus, I need to do my assignments online and write some stuff for my fiction class which these days sucks!

Therefore, when I'm done with the computer, I realize I have been here for more than 5 hours! Disaster! Sometimes it exceeds to 7 hours! :(

One part of me is thankful for the computers for making the life easy, but another part hates them and thinks ancient people lived more happily without computers!

So, DÉJÀ VU BLOGEST is absolutely for me! Dear Ellen,
I'm writing this letter because of my love to you. I'm not sending this letter because I know you will never read it among thousands of letters. Who knows, perhaps you will stumble upon my blog and read it.
First, I want to say that I write letters only the people whom I love very much just showing how much I value them. Indeed, no one has written these kind of letters to me, but it is a different story. :)

Ellen, I want to thank you for everything you have done. I want to thank you because you are always there, in my computer. You are a great woman and you know how to live a real full life. You always help people who encounter difficulties and you make thousands of people smile with your helps. Most important, you're the only one who makes me laugh out loud. Whenever I am upset and need to smile, I open your YouTube channel and you really help me to smile or it is just more than smiling. You have a very good sense of humor, that's why you have raised to this level. Some people around me says you are not funny at all but for me, your every single word is a damn funny joke.

Thanks for being in my life. Thanks for being in millions of people's life. You deserve to be on the level you are. You have taught me many things. I think I will buy your book "Seriously... My Thoughts on The Notebook

If you see The Notebook's cover on my sidebar under the "Currently Reading" header for almost a month and say "WHAT THE HELL?!", I have an explanation! :D I'm not that bad reader. I was just not reading it. I wasn't reading any fiction book. Instead I was reading my "lovely" textbooks when I had spare time. But yesterday I had more spare time and finished this book. I'm now relaxed, because I'm not the only one in the world anymore who hasn't read it.

At first, I thought it was a novella because the book has only 214 pages with the excerpt of A Walk to Remember and the entire novel is just 189 pages.

Anyway, I want to talk about my thoughts. Generally I have 3 main opinions about The Notebook.

1) The language is simple: Yay! I like it! The language is so simple, though it hasn't lost its beauty. Nicholas Sparks hasn't used so complicated words and tangled long sentences, I didn't even look up the dictionary out of a few words or re-read them. I wish all the authors used that simple language that Javid can understand everything!
By the way, I had added some of Faulkner's books to my wishlist on Amazon, but last week my Writing Fiction class professor gave me a short story of him which is called A Rose for Emily. The only thing I asked was "Is it in English??" :)

2) The first half of the novel is boring: I usually stop reading novels which I don't enjoy till the middle, but this time I didn't and I liked the rest of the novel. Maybe you will not agree with me, but personally I got really bored of reading some places. Perhaps it is the effect of people's impressions on me that I thought it is a very great story before reading it, because The Notebook is most people'e favorite book. So, I expected to read something super interesting and it disappointed me.

3) Old characters: A few weeks ago, I had written a post about my difficulties on writing old characters. The second half of the book is mostly about old Noah and Allie's life and Nicholas Sparks has described their feelings very well. This part was very helpful to me to understand and feel like them and improved my skills on writing old characters. Thank you Nicholas Sparks!

These all were just my brief opinions on The Notebook book. I liked this book for only the second half of it and my Goodreads rating is 3/5. Though, I don't plan to buy next book of Nicholas Sparks. Perhaps in the future. And I started to read Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher and I really like it. I hope I can finish earlier.

Beside of the book, The Notebook is most people's favorite movie. Yeah, I watched it. I wish I couldn't. Because it made me really angry! Movie is generally good if you haven't read the book. But if you watch it after the book like me, it is a bullshit! I couldn't enjoy the movie because they have made A LOT OF changes to the story and it makes it very bad. It is not a movie based on The Notebook novel, it is just a very similar one to it. I think it is nothing but a disrespect to the author. I asked myself; Would I accept if it was my novel? But I couldn't answer. Maybe yes or maybe no. But it may really hurt me if someone takes my novel and change it to something very different.
I just want to emphasize again, it is a good movie if you haven't read the book.

And my IMDb score is 5/10.

In Time

Finally, after a few months I went to a cinema with my friends. This time, we didn't decide what to watch beforehand, we chose the movie there. Many thanks to my friends to trust my movie skills and agree with my choices :D I chose In Time, directed and written by Andrew Niccol and starring Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy. My friends liked this movie a lot and they appreciated as usual :P But you know, I'm not that good boy, sometimes my thoughts can be very surprising about some movies or books. Alright, let me tell my opinions. But before, let's take a quick look at the story line taken from IMDb:

In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage - a connection that becomes an important part of the way against the system.
Genres: Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Release Date: 28 October 2011 (USA)
General Rating: 6.7/10

Even though it was Action, Sci-Fi and Thriller, it didn't disappoint me. I think the story is a very common action movie story - the boy gets the daughter of a very rich man, they love each other and fight against someones and blah blah. The point is that the director/writer Andrew Niccol has done a very good job and turned this common story to a very unique film. He has used time instead of money and it has became a very appealing movie. That's why these days In Time hits the Box Office.

One of the many reasons of the success of this movie is Justin Timberlake. Yeah, he is a very good actor and handsome. I think most people has gone to see this film only and only for Justin Timberlake :D Though, in my opinion he has done his job very well.

The main thing I liked about the movie is that it teaches something to people. I do not like movies which are just for entertaining. It made me think about the time once more. In this film, people have clocks on their arms so they can know when they will die. I asked myself if we had such a thing, would it be good? No! - is the answer. As seen on the movie, people will fight for time and try to steal someone else's life. It is good that we don't know when we will die because if we knew, there wouldn't be the meaning of life, we would always think about our deaths and destroy the good moments of our life.

That's all. There's nothing else to talk about. Generally, I liked In Time and surprisingly my IMDb score is 7/10.

'What If's - The Insecure Writer's Support Group

I feel so sad for missing the previous The Insecure Writer's Support Group, but I think it is forgivable because you know, this university life made me a really busy person.

I know I'm the last person in Blogosphere who should write about his writing adventures. But like I said before, I write for nothing else but enjoyment. I don't dream that someday I will be a bestselling author or something like that (I actually do sometimes :D). Fortunately, I take Writing Fiction class which is helpful to me to practice and improve my writing skills.

So, let me explain my current insecurity;

Yeah, I love writing. I love fiction. I love making stories. I have a great story in my mind that I think about it always and everywhere. I have almost devoted my dreams, thoughts and incredibly little spare time to this story. That's why I want to share it with the world. That's why I write this novel which will be ready after 10 years if I go by this speed like I mentioned before. Therefore, these all are the good sides of my writing.

And the horrible side is where the concerns appear. I think sometimes, I love this story and I have to share it. So, the entire world has to be aware of my work. But, what if no one will want to read it? What if, no one will want to publish? What if no one will not be interested in the story I created? So, all these questions make me feel like this:

Music Is Inspiration

I'm sure all of you have at least an inspiration to do your favorite activity. And I'm sure there is no any person who doesn't like music! Yeah, music is my biggest inspiration to write, read, imagine, dream and whatever I like! I wouldn't say I like exactly this or that genres of music. I listen to whatever I like, doesn't matter rock, pop, punk or anything else. But my all time favorite singers/bands are P!nk, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Weezer and etc. I'm not one of those huge fans just like Little Monster, Belieber or Hooligan, neither a hater. I just dislike. For example, in my opinion, the stuff Justin Bieber sings is not music. For me, music doesn't have a definition. Music is a different life for me. I cannot have an imagination without music.

Starting from this way, I wanted to share my favorite inspirational songs with you. There are lots of songs I would call great music. First I wanted to create a post series that every week I share my favorite songs, but I know my self very well and I know that I'm a lazy blogger, I will not be able keep track of these posts. Anyway, I made a list of some songs that really affected me.

Korean Folk Village

Last Saturday, to get out of the stress of these Midterm exams I joined an exurcion to "Korean Folk Village" located in Yongin city of South Korea. It took nearly one and half hour to get there from Daejeon city (where I live). For me, these kind of places are more enjoyable than modern recreation centers. Everywhere was smelling the nature and to see the ancient living areas of Korean ancestors was just delightful. I cannot describe what I felt while traveling this place. And I wanted to share the photos so you can do a virtual travel to this beautiful village.

Writing Old Characters

While working on my W.I.P (which will be ready after 10 years if I go by this speed :D), I realized that I face more difficulties while writing old characters. I was writing an old woman character who is talking about her life and feelings. Naturally, it is more difficult to write this character for the people on my age or just young people. The most crucial thing to write an old character is to have a great empathy. At least, I think that way. I guess I do have enough empathy to overcome but it seems I must revise it several times.

I tried to remember the old characters from books but I think I haven't read that many books strongly related to the old people. Do you advise any?

Have you ever written about an old person? Have you faced any difficulties? I hope I'm not the only one.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Well, this is not a movie review blog, but I write about the movies which I extremely like or dislike or whatever I do extremely :D This time, I'm talking about a film which I extremely liked; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Before writing my thoughts, this is the plot summary below taken from IMDb.

Joel is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contracts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwaik, to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get her out of his head.

Well, the reasons that the movie had been inserted to my "To Watch" list (even a little late) were its genres and of course Kate Winslet. :) Yeah, I love Drama, Romance and a little Sci-Fi.

The story of the movie is amazing! I love the happy ending, well-written. I think it is the result of the hard work of three people. Yeah, three people had worked on a story! I mostly adore the screenwriter (Charlie Kaufman). How, how could he write the screenplay of a super complicated movie?! Well done! I will download the script later.

Another thing I like the movie is the character selection. The characters are not superfluous. There are two main characters; Joel and Clementine. This is very logical because it is a love story, not a story of a large family. And the other characters do not appear so much.

And there is no much stuff to talk about the actors. Kate Winslet (Clementine) is a perfect selection. She does well at drama and especially romance. Jim Carrey (Joel) is also good but I still think he is better at comedy.

A Flash Fiction Story: The Stripper

Last week, we did a very fun class work at Writing Fiction class. We had to write a flash fiction story according to a simple rule: must use the following words: figure, dusk, flirt, mobile phone, and wig.

I thought a lot and finally came to a decision to write this story below. You know, literature needs freedom, it is really hard to write with some rules, you have to completely be independent. However, this one was very easy and fun! I really have fun at my Writing Fiction class. :)

Before the story, I want to congratulate my professor Jeffrey Miller who won two great awards: Silver in the Korean War book award category and Gold in the Fiction: Literary category for his Korean War novel - War Remains. I became very happy for that :) Thousands of congratulations!

And now, here's the story below:

The Stripper
She unlocked the old, rusty door and came into the house while wiping the sweat from her forehead, she had made while walking up the stairs. It had been a very long and arduous night again. She looked at the clock on her mobile phone; it was 5:15 A.M. While putting her bulky bag down, her eyes suddenly caught the old rag doll on the sofa which her grandfather gave her. This old and dirty doll reminded her all of the memories from her childhood in the farm. All these family meetings and music nights were disappeared from her life. There was a world of difference between her early life and today.

Now, her life was dreadful. Hah, how it could be better?! How could the life of a stripper be better?! She had wasted her 13 years for dancing in a damn night club and flirting with men only for money! She didn’t have any expectations from life.

She stood in front of the mirror and stared at herself after taking her long and blond wig off. She was hideous to be a stripper. However, she knew that as her original look, she was much more beautiful than this stupid fake figure.

She couldn’t sleep during the whole day because of thinking her life.

She never made quick decisions during her whole existence. But today was diverse.

Today, when the whole city buried into the silence after the dusk, her body was swinging on the top of the room.

My First Fiction Class Homework

As I said before, I take "Writing Fiction" class as an elective course at university and our topic for the beginning is flash fiction. And I also emphasized that I had a homework which I had to write a flash fiction. But it is not as easy as other ones. So, the rules were that we had to create a character as a small group and write a paragraph about him/her individually. There were a lot of features of this character and it is almost impossible to include all these features in a good short story. I wrote my flash fiction (418 words) and submitted to the professor and now I'm waiting for the feedback. I just want to say that the character we created is terrible. Because we were just having fun together while writing the characteristics. :D Besides, all of my class mates' first language is not English like me. I know my story is so classic but I tried to do my best. This is the flash fiction below, I'm gonna write the features of my character as bold, so you can understand what characteristics I included.

Fashionable Schizophrenic
Mary cameinto the room with a deep frustration in her big eyes, tears dropping onto her tan skin and messy long brown hair hanging from her shoulders.
“No! I will never be able to learn the reality about my mother!”
“Chill out Mary! You were a calm girl! What happened to you? Don’t let this damn phone call ruin all your life.” said her best friend, Clara.
“I don’t know what’s happening to me, Clara! After this unknown person called and said that my mother is alive, I cannot be OK! I’m in the middle of nowhere! I was just trying to get better after my father’s death. I’ve had enough! replied Mary calmly with sadness in her eyes.
But it seems Clara had thought a lot and found a way.
“Well my dear, let’s forget about it only for a day. Don’t you remember you had bought a beautiful pink dress? Why don’t you wear it now?” she said.
Mary was a fashion addict and nothing could make her happy but a cute dress. She agreed and went to wear her pink dress.
After seeing a little smile on her lips, Clara added;
“Look Mary,you were good at your lessons, you can keep studying hard and get scholarship from your college. So, you can make money and go to California to look at the official documents. Besides, you can talk to your aunt who raised you.”
She thoughtfully went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and took out her favorite foods; potato with fish cutlet and beef soup. She knew that she gets much depressive when she is hungry. And the best thing was that, it doesn’t matter how much she was eating, she was never getting weight.
After long consideration and patience, finally she was in California, in her hometown. She was happy, doing shopping, and traveling. Because she had proved that this phone call was from a silly person who had hatred to her father. Everything was solved and there was no any reason to get upset.
After returning to Tokyo, she was again relaxed, smiling and trying to enjoy life.
Despite she was thinking everything is fine, nothing was normal in her life. There was a strong reason what was going to make her sad again and even destroy her life. Mary was going to realize that she is a lonely schizophrenic girl who talked to a rag doll during her whole life and called it her best friend, Clara.

That's all! I revised a lot but I hope you will not find grammatical mistakes :D
And I want to say that my next homework is just awesome! Guess what? I have to write a "He said/She said" short dialog story which has to be exactly 500 words. I will explain the details on my next post. That's gonna be fun!

My First Fiction Class

As you know, I'm at university and I had chosen my courses till last week. I chose three required and an elective. I think the elective is my favorite! - Writing Fiction! Yeah! I'm very very happy about that and I was very enthusiastic for the first class.
So, I never thought that I would have a fiction class before. But, when I saw this class on the courses list, I became freaking happy! Unfortunately, we missed two classes because of holidays such as Chuseok - Korean Traditional Thanksgiving (I'm gonna write a post about it if I find time). However, finally, last Friday it happened!
It was so fun and I really liked it a lot. a lot of thanks to my professor Jeffrey Miller! He ran the class professionally and I didn't even get bored during this three hours. :-D Our first topic was just cool and so fun. Guess what? - Flash Fiction! Professor explained the flash fiction very well and we read some some short stories such as Chinese author Wang Renshu's Blowfish and some other great stories of my professor. And homework is that we have to create a character as a group and write a paragraph individually. Not a story, just a paragraph which describes the character. I haven't done it yet but I think It's gonna be fun for me! :)

And I want to talk about my professor a little bit. Jeffrey Miller is a published, award winner author. His three books were published until today and his novel about Korean war War Remains has won many awards and yesterday I heard that this novel is nominated to Military Writers of America 2011 Book Awards. I'm Just Shocked!

Look at this coincidence! I was complaining about that why Blogger doesn't create an app for iOS.

So, I decided to write a post about that and make a Twitition maybe Blogger can hear us and consider about that.

So, I opened Blogger, before writing it, I read some posts and what the hell I saw?!

A post by Blogger, they officially announce that they have created an app for iOS. That made me shocked.

Unfortunately, you can only write or edit posts, there is no Google Reader. :(

But that's OK, I guess this app is going to help me a lot.
